How to Clean Your Diamond?

Jul 12,2025 | Diabond

Cultivated diamonds, like natural diamonds, have oleophilic properties, making them prone to attracting various dirt and grease during daily wear, which can affect their luster and fire. Common sources of dirt include:

  • : When worn, the oil and sweat secreted by the skin will gradually adhere to the surface of the diamond and the setting.

  • : Products containing oil and fine particles such as lotions, creams, foundations, etc. are prone to form dirt after contact with jewelry.

  • : In daily activities, dust and tiny particles in the air will adhere to diamonds.

  • : Such as hand soap, detergent residues, food oil stains, etc., can also cause surface dirt accumulation.

  • : The metal claws, chain links and other small gaps of rings or pendants are prone to catching dirt and affecting the overall gloss of the diamond.

If these dirt are not cleaned regularly, the diamond will lose its original brilliance. It is recommended to clean it at least once a week to keep it in the best condition.

Cultured diamonds are just as bright as natural diamonds, and daily cleaning can maintain their brilliance. It is recommended to perform simple cleaning at home, the steps are as follows:

  • Preparing tools: Warm water, mild dishwashing detergent, soft-bristled toothbrush, soft lint-free cloth.

  • soak: Soak your cultured diamond jewelry in mild soapy water for about 15-20 minutes to soften dirt and grease.

  • Light brush: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the diamond and the setting, paying special attention to the gaps.

  • Rinse and dry: Rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently dry with a lint-free cloth to avoid water marks.

Regular cleaning will keep your cultured diamond sparkling. It is recommended that you have it inspected and deep cleaned by a professional jeweler every year.
